Meet the coaches

Jon Stewart - Academy Director

Jon's 25 years of cricketing experience gives him the ideal skills to oversee the Academy. He is currently the head coach of Berkshire U10's.

As a left arm spinner Jon played for Berkshire and England Schools Under 19's and was destined for an illustrious career. He was training at Lords with Middlesex before a long lasting back injury cut short his bowling career. Because of this Jon knows only too well the importance of not over bowling and learning a good sound technique at an early age to prevent future injury.

Being forced to turn his hand to batting, Jon became a classy opening batsmen, continuing to play for Berkshire and scoring over 60 hundreds in local cricket.

Jon is extremely popular amongst the children. His relaxed and friendly approach immediately makes children feel comfortable providing a platform for them to improve. For the more experienced player, Jon delivers high quality technical sessions. He has an excellent track record of delivering real improvement through his 1:1 sessions.

Jon spent the winter of 2017 completing his ECB Level 3 Performance Coaching Badge where he learnt alongside international cricketers such as James Taylor, Azhar Mahmood (pictured here) and Ian Harvey. He is also one of the first coaches in Berkshire to undergo the ECB's Diploma in Coaching Cricket.

Phil West- Academy Coach

Phil is a very experienced coach and is currently coach / manager of the Berkshire U14 development squad.

Phil delivers programmes throughout many different schools and offers both quality and innovative sessions. His game based learning sessions are hugely enjoyable yet very beneficial. Commanding immediate respect from his pupils, he is a very popular coach amongst the TVC team

Arun Brar - Academy Coach

As a full time coach Arun has vast experience. A full time sports coach at the highly acclaimed Rockerby Preparatory school in Norbiton, Arun is also a Berks youth coach.

Arun believes that sport should be enjoyable and fun, that you should be allowed to express yourself and be as creative as possible.  Underpinning that there should be a willingness to work hard, an appreciation of others and openness to new experiences. Arun sees his role as a coach as to simply facilitate learning and be a guide.

Dan Marles - Academy Coach

Dan is captain of High Wycombe CC and plays for the full Bucks side. Along his career pathway he has received some quality coaching himself.  When he is not playing he coaches for both Berks and Bucks junior sides.

Dan enjoys seeing the development of players technically, mentally and socially. He delivers high quality sessions in a competitive environment.

Tom Fray - Academy Coach

Still playing for Reading CC, Tom boasts an illustrious cricket career. A quality top order batsmen, he has represented Berkshire at every level as well as representing the Minor Counties U25's and Middlesex in the 2nd XI Championship.

As a cricket coach, being part of the nationwide "Chance to Shine" project, Tom has worked with many local clubs and schools.  Tom particularly excels at coaching technical elements, and will improve any cricketers technique and mental approach to the game.

Agility, Co-ordination and Functional Movement Coaches

In every block of 8 sessions, the TVCA members will be fortunate enough to experience a session on agility and movement from one of the academy coaches at Premier League Football Club, Fulham FC. The modern cricketer needs to do more than just bat, bowl and field. Quick feet, great co-ordination, good core strength and excellent functional movement are now key to cricketing success.

The Fulham Academy have been awarded Category One status under the new Elite Player Performance Plan (EPPP) which is the highest accolade given to a pro football club. The Fulham coaches understand the need for any sportsman to develop their agility, co-ordination and core strength.
